February 9th 2012 – in honour of the late and greatest James Yancey [aka J Dilla], an eclectic crowd of beat heads and frosh boys filled Wrongbar for, what would become, a ground breaking performance for BADBADNOTGOOD. Jazz was in the house. Moshing?? was in the house. And the spirit of Dilla was definitely present.
We put this recap of what went down, under our Sub Company K1ROBOT – just for the love of it. Big thank you to MYMANHENRI, and the peeps @ Wrongbar for making it all possible.
Using surgical tools, artist Brian Dettmer meticulously removes pieces of a literary work to create these masterpieces. I imagine watching him work would look something like a game of Hasbro’s Operation – but looking at the complexity in these pieces, I feel it would be more like watching an actual brain surgery. I’ve never seen anything like it. True brilliance. Read an interview with The Book Surgeon here.
Drawing on the art of Georges Rousse (no doubt), creative shop, LUMBRE, came up with these simple, yet terribly complex image spots for NAT GEO. You can get a sense of the technique they used to create these illusions by referring to this mini doc on Rousse’s work. HERE
Next weekend my very good friend and business/creative guru is putting on this special event to bring new focus to realm of entrepreneurship. Being my very good friend, when she asked (or rather demanded!) that I put a web video promo together for her – in 5 days no less! – this is what we came up with. Thank you to all the SociaLIGHTs who came out to make this happen for a grand total of $0! Make sure you’re there. Especially if you’re looking to start the new year with a contact list full of people who want to help you achieve your goals as much as theirs.
